Why do I need a web site?
A web site is a marketing tool, like your business card. Think of it as your reception area, where your current and potential clients can find information about your products and services form the convince of their home with out visiting your premises.
Some good reasons to have a Web site are:

  • improve your business image,
  • improve customer service,
  • find new prospects,
  • increase visibility,
  • perform online transactions,
  • expand your market,
  • meet your customer expectations,
  • reduce costs,
  • and get up to speed before it is too late.
  • But before you plunge into creating a web site.. think about the pros and cons of having one. Ask your self these questions:

  • Can my target market access the Internet?
  • What do I expect of the site? What goals the site need to meet?
  • Am I going to use the site as an information tool only? Or will I have online money transaction, where customers can buy my product or service online?
  • What kind of information I need in my site?
  • Do I have the technical background to take over the maintenance of the site?
  • Do I have the tools (computer, software, internet connection) to perform site maintenance?

  • What is a domain name?
    Domain names are the familiar, easy to remember names for computers on the Internet. They correspond to a series of numbers (called Internet Protocol numbers) that serve as routing addresses on the Internet, like http://www.shiftingweb.com. Domain names are used generally as a convenient way of locating information and reaching others on the Internet. These names are controlled by InterNIC to be sure there are not duplicates names. They charge an initial fee to register your domain and an annual fee for you to be able to keep your domain. If you do not have a domain name, we will be happy to register one for you.

    What is a URL?
    A URL is a Uniform Resource Locator. This is the address of a page on the Web like http://www.shiftingweb.com. Domain name and URL are the same.

    What is E-Commerce?
    E-commerce and e-business are defined as any business transaction performed online.


    Search Engine optimization and Meta tags?

    There is more than 1 Billion web page (Source: Inktomi/NEC Study), and about 91% of internet user use search engine like Google to navigate the web.

    Search engines use Meta tags (Keywords in the page HTML code) to find out important information about your page and to list it in their index. So when users type a keyword or phrase into a search engine query box, they receive a listing of websites that offer information, products or services related to that keyword. Search engines list the most qualified websites at the top of the list. You will need to optimize your site in order to gain higher ranking among search engines.

    What does HTML stand for?
    HTML stands for Hypertext Mark-up Language. This is the language that World Wide Web documents use. It is a transportable language that all browsers on all computers are able to read. HTML has grown since it was first introduced and some of the newer features are not understood by older browsers.


    What does ASP stand for?
    Active Server Pages are open, application environments in which you can combine HTML, scripts, and reusable Active-X server components to create dynamic and powerful Web-based business solutions. Active Server Pages enable server-side scripting for IIS with native support for both VBScript and JavaScript.


    Who will own the work when the project is complete?
    When the project is done and all parties are satisfied, you, the client, will own all graphic files, except source files which can be made available.

    Why do Website colors look different from monitor to monitor?
    Colors on the Internet are shown to you based on your local computer system configurations. Thus, colors may look a little different on other computers. This is unavoidable and should be considered when choosing a design.

    What's FTP?
    FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a method of transferring files (web pages) from your local computer to your web server. There are a variety of free ftp software programs available on the Internet and they enable you to update your website pages at any given time.
